These decisions aren’t abstract. They determine whether kids get measles, mumps, rubella, or COVID protection, and whether physicians feel pressured not to prescribe life-saving vaccines. This sham committee voted to restrict MMRV vaccines, then backtracked when they realized they didn’t even understand their own votes. They’re adding needless hurdles to getting COVID vaccines, confusing patients and overburdening doctors. It’s not about helping families. It’s about sowing distrust and dismantling trust in medicine. And it doesn’t stop there. Trump just gutted the H-1B visa process, making it nearly impossible for international medical residents, who make up 30% of the workforce in critical hospitals, to come here. That’s not just cruel and stupid, it’s suicidal for a country with an aging population and skyrocketing demand for medical care. The irony? Red states, which rely most on these doctors, will be hit hardest. This is yet another example of the dangers of authoritarianism. Trump wants to replace science with loyalty tests and propaganda. He wants to be the “I alone can fix it” guy, while gutting the very infrastructure that keeps Americans safe from outbreaks. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to predict the outline. Get ready for more confusion, fewer doctors, weaker protections, and preventable suffering. Thankfully, states like California, Washington, and Massachusetts are banding together to protect science and public health. She was the breakout star of a July 2020 event in Washington, D.C. held by a group calling itself America’s Frontline Doctors, which was affiliated with a right-wing group called Tea Party Patriots Action and included such purported virology experts as a Michigan ophthalmologist with an expired medical license. Among other things, doctors in the group claimed that the drug hydroxychloroquine could cure COVID; at the time, then-President Trump was obsessed with hydroxychloroquine, and he retweeted an America’s Frontline Doctors video, which was then removed from Twitter and Facebook for violating misinformation policies. |
