Hi Reader, Today marks the start of our fall member drive, and we’d like to personally invite you to be part of it. Through the rest of the month, we’ll take you inside our newsroom — introducing our new reporters, sharing insights from our editorial team, highlighting the role CommonWealth Beacon plays in building a stronger future for Massachusetts, and hopefully inspiring you to join us with a donation to support our critical work. Earlier this year, John Palfrey, president of the MacArthur Foundation, underscored the critical role philanthropy plays in the support of journalism. Palfrey shared “Whatever your first issue is, local news and journalism should be your second. Because if we don’t have a shared set of facts, then we will not be able to get rational policy solutions. And if we don’t have communities where people can talk across their differences, we’re not going to have a democracy." That’s the mission of CommonWealth Beacon. Our journalism holds power to account, amplifies voices from every corner of the state, and provides the context and depth needed for meaningful civic dialogue. In short: We help ensure that Massachusetts has the trusted information it needs to thrive.  But we cannot do it without you.
