In just four months, the US has already seen more than double the number of measles cases it saw in all of 2024. But instead of working to contain this outbreak, our top Health official, RFK Jr., is downplaying the danger, and fanning the flames of anti-vaccine nonsense. Vaccines were the main reason that measles cases went from widespread to nearly zero by 2000. But RFK Jr. has said the measles vaccine wasn’t “safety tested” (it was) and that the vaccine’s protection “wanes very quickly” (it provides lifelong protection). He said we’re “always going to have measles, no matter what happens” (ignoring the fact that we went from millions of cases to near zero.) RFK Jr. has spent years spreading this nonsense, and many people didn’t vaccinate their children as a result. He needs to stop.
