It’s Tax Day, and while millions of people are working hard to file on time, Donald Trump is doing what he does best: trying to game the system for himself and his billionaire friends with his nomination of Billy Long to head the IRS. A former Congressman with zero tax expertise, Long has a long record of doing Trump’s bidding. Trump’s goal is crystal clear: protect the ultra-wealthy from ever paying what they owe. Under former IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel, tax enforcement finally turned a corner, recovering $1.3 billion from ultra wealthy tax cheats in just months, launching the free Direct File pilot program, and slashing call wait times. All of that progress is on the line if Billy Long takes control. The IRS is one of the few agencies that can hold billionaires and corporations accountable for trying to cheat on their taxes. That’s why Trump wants someone like Long at the helm to dismantle enforcement, persecute immigrants, kill Direct File, and let the rich walk free while the rest of us get over audited. We can’t let that happen. Here’s the good news: Senate Democrats are fighting back. Senator Brian Schatz has already blocked over 300 of Trump’s nominees, a bold stand against lawlessness and corruption. Now we need the Senate to stop Trump’s IRS sabotage, too. Tell the Senate: Block Trump’s IRS nominee and protect tax fairness now.
A Trump-controlled IRS is a tax haven for billionaire tax cheats and a disaster for working families. During Trump’s first term, audits of millionaires dropped by 92%, but scrutiny of low-income Americans actually increased. That wasn’t a glitch. It was the plan. And Billy Long is here to bring it all back. Danny Werfel rebuilt a broken agency: launching audits of 60 ultra-profitable corporations, clawing back $29 billion in unpaid taxes from Microsoft, and helping everyday taxpayers finally get answers from the IRS. The IRS should be able to carry that work forward, but only if the Senate refuses to confirm Trump’s handpicked saboteur. Republicans have made their intentions clear: bring back Trump’s tax cuts, slash IRS funding, and protect the super-rich from accountability. Together, we can stop Trump from turning the IRS into a billionaire protection racket. - The Take On Wall Street Team
