It’s Friday and you made it through the week! Today’s American News–your source for news and analysis on the circus that is American politics and entertainment–is back.
Gross… Tech billionaires pony up for Trump inauguration… Open AI CEO Sam Altman will personally donate $1 million to Donald Trump’s inauguration fund, matching the donations of the same amount from Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and Amazon. Shop local this holiday season.
Pelosi falls, seeks hospital care in Luxembourg… We are wishing Nancy Pelosi a swift healing process and safe return home from Luxembourg, where she fell during an official engagement and received treatment in a local hospital. Her spokesperson confirmed she is receiving “excellent” care. Pelosi was celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Luxembourg is a staunch ally of the United States, and the small nation played an outsized role in rebuilding and integrating Europe after World War II.
This Trump proposal is actually good… Most headlines pertaining to once and incoming president Donald Trump make us scared or annoyed… but this one is actually a good idea: “Trump renews push to end daylight saving time.” Multiple quantitative studies show permanent daylight savings time would make us sleep better and would likely even reduce crime–believe it or not. Besides–how many Americans actually like having to change their clocks twice a year? Not us.
RFK Jr. in hot water over connection to anti-polio vaccine attorney… Count outgoing U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell–a polio survivor–among those not happy with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s connection to another anti-vaxxer. Aaron Siri, who served as RFK Jr.’s attorney during his presidential campaign and has been helping the Trump nominee for Health & Human Services secretary identify people to work at the department, petitioned the government to revoke approval of the polio vaccine according to The New York Times. RFK’s nomination could be in hot water; he is already in trouble with right-wingers over his tepid support for abortion rights.
Today’s Buzz
Barbie movie sequel is in the works… Didn’t get enough Barbie the first time around? The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on a sequel to the 2023 hit film, apparently in its early stages.
