North Carolina GOP plans to appeal denial of Griffin’s ballot challenges
The North Carolina Republican Party asked the state election board to issue a written order about its dismissal of GOP state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin’s 60,000 ballot challenges, so they can appeal the decision in court.
After two different recounts, Democratic incumbent Justice Allison Riggs’ victory in the 2024 race was solidified. However, Griffin has not conceded and state Republicans continue to challenge the results.
The state GOP argued the board “wrongly decided” to dismiss Jefferson’s election protests, which “highlighted legitimate concerns about irregularities in the November 5 election.”
Senate has to confirm two more Biden judges to surpass Trump’s total
As of today, the U.S. Senate has confirmed 233 judges nominated by President Joe Biden. President-elect Donald Trump appointed 234 judges to lifetime appointments during his term, and with a couple of weeks left in the Senate’s session, it looks like Biden will surpass Trump’s total.
After the election, the Senate has rushed to confirm as many judges as possible before Trump enters office. Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said that “this may be the busiest committee in the Senate.”
