The Doctor Who Transformed Trauma Into Purpose

 

Sometimes the biggest decisions in our lives trace their roots back to trauma. That was certainly true for my friend Dr. Joseph Sakran, a trauma surgeon and founder of the #ThisIsOurLane movement.   When Dr. Sakran was only seventeen years old, he was shot in the throat after a high school football game. That moment transformed his life and sent him on his path as a physician and gun reform advocate. He came to national prominence in 2018 when the NRA told “self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane.” He responded in no uncertain terms that gun violence was their lane.   In the latest episode of Circle Back with Igor Volsky, I talk to Dr. Sakran about his fight against the NRA, his work, his childhood, and so much more.
