My family history is proof that change is possible

Stacey Abrams for Governor

I want to share with you something that grounds me when times get tough:

My great-great-great grandparents were enslaved. My great-great grandparents were sharecroppers.

My maternal grandfather was born 25 years after slavery was abolished. My paternal grandparents cooked for a public university their kids could not legally attend. And my parents were first-generation college students.

Today, I am running to be the next governor of Georgia.

I am committed to working with you to move us to our next and greatest chapter, continuing fights that were fought for me, long before anyone knew my name.

We still have a lot of work to do to open gates of opportunity to all Georgians. If you’re with me in this effort, will you contribute $5 to make that progress possible?

My parents were denied full citizenship for most of their formative years under Jim Crow — and yet, they still raised us to understand that our responsibility was to serve. They taught us that if you see a problem, you do not complain about it. You fix it.

My family’s story is proof that change is possible. Achievement is possible. But it does not happen on its own. It happens when people like you and me heed the call to serve others, to do all in our power to help every Georgian have the chance to thrive.

As I reflect on my family’s history across generations, I know with the right leadership, our brightest days are yet to come. I am proud to have supporters like you standing beside me.

Will you pitch in $5 or anything you can to power our fight for progress right now?

Thank you,

Stacey
