Friends, the Declaration of Independence closes with a promise: “We mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” That's a big thing to give up. Putting your country before yourself is real patriotism and requires making a conscious decision — a decision to devote ourselves to serving our neighbors and bettering our future.
