John Sununu has taken the lead in the polls thanks to $50 million in total GOP spending — and we know even more money is hitting the airwaves soon. To compete with their millions, we need you. At the GOP Senate Primary debate, John Sununu told a room full of Republicans that he’s running for Senate to send me back to “bussing tables” at my family’s “chicken restaurant.” He meant it as an insult. Josh Rogers/NHPR As if working in restaurants — cooking food, clearing plates, and keeping the family businesses that are the heart of our state alive — is something to be embarrassed about. I’m not embarrassed. I’m proud of where I came from. My family opened our restaurant, the Puritan Backroom, more than 100 years ago. I know what a 65-hour week feels like because I’ve worked one. I know what it means to show up every day, work hard, and treat the people around you like they matter — because they do. I learned my values in that restaurant. I learned to respect hard work, to look people in the eye, and to understand that every job deserves dignity and every worker deserves respect. John Sununu has never had to work hard a day in his life. He was born into a political dynasty. His family’s “business” isn’t serving New Hampshire families — it’s owning a literal gold mine in Azerbaijan that sells critical minerals to China. That’s what John Sununu calls honest work. New Hampshire workers deserve a Senator who knows what a hard day’s work actually looks like — who fights for small business owners, for restaurant workers, and for every family just trying to make ends meet. John Sununu is running to protect people like himself. I’m running to stand up for you. Sununu’s comments showed us who he truly is. He doesn’t get how hard Granite Staters work – and he sure as hell doesn’t think that labor is worth respecting. I do — that’s why I’m running for Senate.
