When I was 12 years old, my mom was driving a friend and me to a game when we got pulled over. My mom is the safest driver I know. Still is. The kind of person who goes the speed limit, keeps both hands on the wheel, and never takes risks. |
But when the officer approached the car, he was loud. Aggressive. It didn’t make sense. The officer told her to get out and made her stand in front of the car while I sat there in the backseat, scared and confused. And then he let her go. No ticket, no warning — nothing. Just fear. That moment stuck with me. Because as a kid, you don’t have the language for it — but you understand something isn’t right. You understand that not everyone is treated the same. You understand that power can be used in ways that leave families shaken for no reason at all. And you carry that with you. It’s part of why I’m running for Congress — because every kid deserves to feel safe. Every parent deserves to be treated with dignity. And every community deserves leaders who will stand up and say, "This is not okay." We can build a country based on fairness and respect, where working families and immigrants are protected, not targeted. But it’s going to take all of us. That’s why I’m reaching out today. If you can, chip in today to help us build a campaign that fights for dignity, fairness, and accountability across the country. I’m in this because I’ve lived it. And I know we can do better. |
