Rice's whale

In just two weeks, Trump's Extinction Committee will meet for the first time—and sacrifice marine wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico for corporate profits.

This meeting violates the Endangered Species Act and, by limiting public participation, is an assault on our legal rights to speak up for species and the wild.

The Center is mobilizing to fight this tooth and nail, and we need you with us.

Please make an urgent gift today to the Freedom Defense Fund.

The Extinction Committee hasn't met in 36 years.

Interior Secretary Burgum wants to give oil and gas activities in the Gulf of Mexico a permanent exemption from complying with the Act, even if it drives Rice's whales to extinction.

There are just 51 of these whales left on Earth, and all of them live in the Gulf. Endangered sea turtles, like the Kemp's ridley, depend on Gulf beaches for nesting. We won't stand by as these species are lost forever.

Burgum is keeping secret what he wants to allow in the Gulf. And while the law requires an open hearing, the Interior Department plans to restrict public participation by only livestreaming the event.

The law makes absolutely clear the Extinction Committee can't meet in private. By hiding behind a web-only livestream, the committee is showing it's afraid to meet in public.

This is all in keeping with a lawless administration dead set on silencing the Center, our members and supporters, and all others who value the natural world over corporate profits.

The Center will be protesting this move and taking legal action to stop it.

We won't be silenced, and we won't let this administration continue its illegal attack on the wild and our right to defend it.

Each and every assault on the wild and our rights must be fought. That's what the Center is here for and is exactly what we'll do.

Because threats to wildlife and the Center itself are ongoing, we need you for the long haul. Please start a monthly donation to sustain our defense.

For the wild,
