The "PEDO Act" and the $300,000 Lie.
By: Live from the Resistance
Who Are We?
Live from the Resistance is a blog dedicated to cutting through the noise. We scour the country to highlight unique, inspiring Democratic candidates and causes that the mainstream media often overlooks. We don’t just tell their stories; we help them win. Through our blog, we connect grassroots donors like you directly to the campaigns that are fighting for our values on the front lines. Together, we’re building a more just and vibrant democracy, one race at a time.
Today’s National Spotlight
There is a rule in politics: The louder a politician screams about a conspiracy, the harder they are trying to distract you from their own reality.
Andy Ogles (TN-05) has found his new favorite prop. He recently introduced legislation with the absurd acronym “The PEDO Act” (Preventing Epstein Documentation Obliteration Act), demanding “radical transparency” and the immediate release of the unredacted Jeffrey Epstein client list. He goes on cable news, waving around the fact that the current files lack transparency, noting that names are redacted and pages are missing, claiming he is the warrior who will finally expose the truth.
It is a great soundbite. But coming from Andy Ogles, it is a stunning act of projection.
He is weaponizing the lack of transparency in the Epstein files to position himself as a crusader for truth. Meanwhile, he is hoping you won’t notice that he is currently the subject of a federal investigation for hiding the truth about his own life.
Mike Cortese, who’s running to beat Ogles, isn’t a “firebrand” who invents his resume. He is a Nashville Metro Council member who actually does the work. And he is the only thing standing between Tennessee’s 5th District and another term of deception.
1. The “Transparency” Charade
Ogles’ fixation on the Epstein files is calculated. He points to the lack of transparency in the files, such as the blacked-out names and sealed court documents, and screams “Cover up!” He wants you to believe that he is the only one brave enough to demand the unredacted truth.
But this isn’t about justice; it’s about distraction. By focusing entirely on a list of names that the courts have sealed (often to protect victims), he gets to play the hero without doing the work. He demands “radical transparency” for everyone else, yet he seemingly believes that rules, disclosures, and honesty don’t apply to him.
It is easy to shout about a “secret list” in Washington. It is much harder to explain why the FBI had to seize your phone to find out where your campaign money came from.
2. The $300,000 Lie
If Andy Ogles cares so much about transparency, why is his own file so full of holes?
Ogles is currently under ethics and FBI investigations regarding his campaign finances. In 2022, he reported loaning his own campaign $320,000. It was a show of financial strength that helped him win a crowded primary. But when investigators looked into his finances to verify that “transparency,” they found that the money didn’t exist. He hadn’t loaned the campaign $320,000. He had loaned it $20,000.
He didn’t just make a rounding error. He invented a quarter of a million dollars out of thin air. This is the man who says he wants to uncover the financial webs of the elite? He can’t even tell the truth about his own bank account. He demands to see the Epstein ledger, but he refuses to show us his own.

3. The Honest Alternative
While Andy Ogles is busy playing detective on TV, Mike Cortese is busy serving the people of Nashville.
Mike didn’t need to invent a backstory to run for office. He is a father, a small business owner, and a Metro Council member who has spent his time fighting for affordable housing, better transit, and holding corporations accountable.
The contrast is simple. Ogles uses the word “transparency” as a weapon to attack his enemies. Mike Cortese uses it as a principle to govern. We don’t need a representative who chases headlines while the FBI chases him. We need a representative who shows up, tells the truth, and does the work
The Bottom Line
Andy Ogles is betting that if he yells “Epstein” loud enough, you will forget that he is a fabulist who lied about his career, his education, and his money.
Don’t fall for the distraction. We need transparency, but it has to start with the man representing us. Mike Cortese is the real deal. Let’s help him bring some actual honesty to Washington.
