Less than a week. That's how far into the New Year we got before President Trump decided to violate our Constitution, international law, and set the country on the path to yet another destabilizing, disastrous foreign war. In the dead of night, he sent our military to bomb Caracas (killing 40 people, including civilians) and abduct the President of the country, Nicolas Maduro. Maduro is a thug and a tyrant, one whose abuses I have condemned in the strongest possible terms, but these strikes are the actions of a President who believes himself to be completely above the law and exempt from our system of checks and balances. After I pointed out that he failed to get authorization from Congress, as the Constitution requires, he called me and anyone else pointing out the obvious "weak and stupid."   Donate Now I'm no stranger to attacks from Trump and the ilk with which he surrounds himself. He can bluster, bully, and brag all he wants, but that won't change the reality that these strikes are plainly illegal without Congressional approval and do nothing to make America or Americans safer. But you know what's really weak and stupid, Frank? Republicans in Congress who don't want to do their job and just want to bow down to Donald Trump and give him unilateral power as he attempts to lure us into another endless war just to enrich his billionaire oil friends. Strong leaders have moral clarity and use their power responsibly. Weak men like Trump make other people's children fight in illegal wars.
