BREAKING: Trump Hypes Latest Vanity Project As New Polling Shows His Approval Plummeting with Independent Voters
With backlash growing over ICE, shutdown odds rising, and his approval collapsing, Trump rolled out a financial product being sold as an economic breakthrough. Hint: it isn’t.
This has been a brutal week for Donald Trump and his administration. The killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis has sparked widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny of ICE and DHS. Democrats are escalating calls to strip immigration enforcement funding from the spending bill, pushing the risk of a government shutdown higher. At the same time, new polling from The Economist shows Trump’s approval with independents cratering, including a near 10 point drop in just the past week.
Against that backdrop, the president took the stage to hype his latest economic offering: “Trump Accounts.”
The pitch is simple. Every newborn would receive a $1,000 government-seeded investment account when they are born, with parents, employers, and private entities encouraged to contribute more over time. Trump framed it as a generational wealth builder and claimed these accounts could grow into hundreds of thousands of dollars by adulthood.
That claim does not hold up. Even optimistic projections require consistent monthly contributions for nearly two decades, something most American families cannot afford. For households already struggling with rent, groceries, childcare, and healthcare, the idea that this will meaningfully change their financial trajectory borders on fantasy.
