A new face for Trump’s murderous disaster

The face of the occupation in Minneapolis is changing, but don't let that fool you: The fascism is here to stay.

The Trump administration knows Minneapolis is a disaster. Its thuggish agents have already murdered two civilians, accounting for two-thirds of the city's murders this year. Even the state's leading Republican candidate for governor just quit, refusing to be part of a party that demands "retribution" on its own citizens.

Now it seems Trump is swapping the pint-size fascist Greg Bovino for Tom Homan. You may remember Homan as the "border czar" who was infamously caught taking $50,000 in cash from undercover FBI agents. You may also remember him as the Trump official who said immigrants should be looking "over their shoulder" and that the mayors of sanctuary cities should be locked up.

At The New Republic, we see through the fake pivots. This administration isn't retreating, it's recalibrating.

We refuse to be cowed by jackbooted thugs or the corrupt hacks sent to lead them, and we need your help to keep the pressure on. Will you stand with us?

Yes, I'll help!

Amid this firestorm of cruelty and controversy, JD Vance is peddling pathetic stories about officers getting their feelings hurt at restaurants, as if that justifies the execution of a nurse. It's a classic move: claim the state's goons are the real victims so they can continue to operate with total impunity.

We need your help to keep exposing this murderous circus.

For U.S. donors giving $100 or more, we'll send you our exclusive TNR tote bag.

And for the next 25 U.S.donors giving $250 or more, we'll add my latest book, Killing Baby Hitler, to the bag. Part sci-fi thriller, part satire, Killing Baby Hitler is a time-travel tale described by Molly Jong-Fast as "savagely funny, unexpected, creative, inventive—really explains the dark times we live in."

The president has replaced Greg Bovino with Tom Homan on the ground in Minnesota, showing he's desperate to change the narrative—but not his draconian policies.
