"To be honest..." Katie Phang Apr 27 Be honest. How many of you, during a conversation, will start a sentence with the phrase: “to be honest…”? I’ll admit I do that sometimes and then I have to stop myself because really, aren’t we supposed to be honest ALL of the time?? I think sometimes we use this phrase because we are about to emphasize a point or maybe we’re about to reveal something about ourselves that maybe we didn’t want to share until that moment. I think it also can be a moment of vulnerability. There is something soothing about complacency. Change can be scary. But, complacency can end up being the thing that stops you from moving forward, from progress. From maybe doing that thing you should have started a long time ago. I’m committed to being transparent with all of you. So, in the spirit of that “to be honest” honesty, I’ll admit to you that I woke up this morning and had to take a few deep breaths because today is a very new day. And that newness is a little scary. But, then I stopped and I thought about how you and I are building a community here at Substack of mutual respect, support, and kindness. And I felt less scared.
