![]() A bill that could spell disaster for forests across the country is one step closer to becoming law, but there's still time to stop it. The so-called "Fix Our Forests" Act would fast-track logging projects and strip away endangered species protections.1 Tell your U.S. senators: Protect our trees. Vote "No" on the Fix Our Forests Act. This bill hinges on the idea that our forests require massive "vegetation management activities" (what most of us would call logging) in order to be resilient against wildfires.2 While climate change, combined with a history of forest mismanagement, has left many of our forests more susceptible to wildfires, this bad forest bill won't protect these special places from fires. Instead, it will accelerate reckless logging projects in our forests. And even worse, it accomplishes this by rolling back environmental review processes put in place by the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act.3 Millions of acres of forest are standing today because of these acts -- they're the legal backbone of habitat preservation.4 Without them, logging companies can chop through federal forest with little regard for wildlife or the environment. It would also leave the public out of the decision-making process, depriving communities and scientists from participating in the review process.5 Help make sure our forests are still standing tomorrow: Take action today. At Environmental Action, we're all for better forest management and wildfire preparation. But the reckless logging allowed by this bill could leave behind combustible dead surface vegetation, endangering what few trees are left. A version of this bill has already passed the House. If it becomes law, it will be harder to challenge logging projects across the country. So we need you to speak for the trees, Before it's too late.6 Don't let the whir of chainsaws overpower your voice. Tell your U.S. senators: Vote "No" on the "Fix Our Forests" Act.
