NASA astronauts return safely to Earth after long delay… “NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore have finally returned to Earth,” NBC News reports. “The two had planned to stay just a week at the International Space Station when they launched on the first crewed flight of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft in June. Instead, they wound up staying at the orbiting lab for more than nine months.” They “splashed down off Florida around 5:57 p.m. ET. Their return is closing out an unusual and dramatic chapter of spaceflight history, which began last year when Williams and Wilmore ran into problems with the Boeing vehicle's thrusters as it was docking to the space station.”

Chief Justice Roberts rebukes Trump’s call for impeachment of judges who rule against him… In your daily dose of this-is-not-normal, Trump earlier today called for the removal of judges who rule against him, calling these judges “crooked” and prompting a rare rebuke from the highest judge in the land. “Chief Justice John Roberts is pushing back against President Donald Trump and his allies’ calls to impeach judges who’ve ruled against the administration,” Politico writes. “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose,” Roberts said today.

Declassified JFK assassination files released… “The National Archives on Tuesday released thousands of pages of declassified records related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963,” ABC News reports. "This release consists of approximately 80,000 pages of previously-classified records that will be published with no redactions," said the announcement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. “Additional documents withheld under court seal or for grand jury secrecy, and records subject to section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code, must be unsealed before release." In one of his few executive orders that did not inflict harm on the American people, Trump signed an executive order on January 23 ordering the files’ release.

Judge rebukes Trump’s “cruel” ban on trans people serving in the military… CBS News reports, “A federal judge on Tuesday blocked enforcement of a new Defense Department policy barring transgender people from serving in the U.S. military. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes granted a request for a preliminary injunction sought by transgender active-duty service members… The judge's order temporarily blocks Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the military services from implementing President Trump's executive order…” Judge Reyes wrote in the order, “the cruel irony is that thousands of transgender servicemembers have sacrificed — some risking their lives —to ensure for others the very equal protection rights the Military Ban seeks to deny them."

Little Monsters propel Gaga’s Mayhem to #1 album spot… The Hollywood Reporter writes, “Lady Gaga‘s Mayhem has debuted at no. 1 on Billboard‘s top 200 albums chart, the publication confirmed on Sunday, marking Gaga’s seventh no. 1 album in her legendary career. Mayhem opened with 219,000 units total, per Luminate, off of 108.05 million streams and 136,000 traditional sales. It’s just the latest chart victory for Gaga, who’s enjoyed a strong year thus far as “Die With A Smile,” her duet with Bruno Mars, spent five weeks this year atop the Hot 100.”
