The first weeks of the Trump administration have been marked by unconstitutional and illegal actions, attacks on democratic institutions and authoritarian rhetoric. Trump has signed blatantly unconstitutional executive orders while his sycophants in Congress cheer him on as they forfeit their own power. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is doing who knows what to the vast federal government and workforce.
Notably, when Trump met with the nation’s governors, his mind wandered back to his deepest obsession and the glue that holds together the disparate pieces of his MAGA movement — undermining free and fair elections.
Trump spent the most time discussing paper ballots and eliminating early voting. He claimed, "Computers are not meant for voting… it's too many transactions taking place too quickly." He falsely asserted that eliminating electronic voting equipment would cut costs and that watermarks could make paper ballots "highly sophisticated." He insisted, "If you have mail-in voting, you're going to have massive fraud."
