PROJECT 2025 IS AN EXTREMIST MANIFESTO THAT DESTROYS DEMOCRACY
AND SHOULD BE WIDELY READ & UNDERSTOOD!
The Trump campaign just attacked me for calling out their insidious plan.
Here's the background: Far-right extremists released a 1,000 page “manifesto” called Project 2025 that outlines their disturbing vision for reshaping the federal government under the next Republican president — and it calls for expanding and expediting use of the federal death penalty, eliminating the Department of Education, national book bans in schools, and banning the federal government’s use of words such as “diversity,” “gender,” “reproductive health,” and “abortion,” just to name a few things.
So during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing, I called Project 2025 what it is: A 1,000-page bucket list of extremist policies that would uproot every government agency and disrupt the lives of everyone who calls this country home. It would enable the Department of Justice to go on a federal execution spree, for example, with its suggestion to do “everything possible” to execute the 44 incarcerated individuals currently on federal death row.
And in response, a spokesperson for Donald Trump attacked me for raising the alarm.
You know that I am against the death penalty and am working to abolish this practice, so when I learned of this “do everything possible” line, I had to call it out.
And, of note, we wouldn’t just be banned from saying the word abortion. This plan says that abortion care would be inaccessible and illegal, no matter where you live. Take it from them: on page six of its playbook, Project 2025 states, “The Dobbs decision is just the beginning.”
That’s to say nothing about Project 2025’s unconscionable proposals for housing, climate change, worker protections, and more.
Project 2025 would enable Trump and Republicans to enact widespread, wholesale policy violence, and it is just a glimpse of what we could expect with an extremist Republican president back in the White House. With your help, I will keep fighting to make sure we never see that day.
In Solidarity,
Ayanna
