Sign The Petition: Scientists found 24 pieces of plastic in a baby sea turtle

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Plastic is polluting our bodies and our oceans, killing precious marine species, and significantly damaging our public resources. It’s also contributing to the devastating impacts of climate change, threatening us all. Take action now >>

Not one, but TWO entire garbage truck’s worth of plastic is dumped into the ocean every single minute — and it’s DECIMATING precious marine life. In fact, about 1,000 sea turtles die every year from plastic ingestion.

All it takes is just ONE single piece of plastic to KILL a baby sea turtle. Studies of hatchlings off the Florida coast have found that more than 90% of baby sea turtles have consumed plastic. Take Gingerbread for example: The fragile animal weighed only about as much as a carrot when scientists found 24 pieces of plastic in the turtle’s tiny tummy.

Meanwhile, Big Plastic and their friends in the fossil fuel industry are continuing to prioritize profits over the health of our planet and its living beings. We urgently need federal action to address the plastic crisis before more baby sea turtles die and the PLASTIC APOCALYPSE takes over our precious Earth. Please, add your name today to help END rampant plastic pollution before it’s too late! >>

Plastics are everywhere — from the food we eat and the water we drink to the air we breathe. There are 13,000 different chemicals that are used to make plastic, and researchers have determined that at least 25% of them are hazardous to humans.

Experts link a host of known diseases and dangers from exposure to these chemicals such as reproductive harms and risks to our cardiovascular health, kidneys, and nervous systems.

On top of polluting our bodies and our oceans, plastics are threatening our planet, too. Plastic production is a major contributor to the climate crisis by releasing massive amounts of greenhouse gases. These large plastic manufacturing facilities disproportionately harm nearby communities — most often low-wealth and Black and Brown communities — polluting their local air, water, and soil.

Look, this is urgent, and it impacts every single one of us. Plastic pollution is threatening people, wildlife, and the planet — and if we want to make a powerful impact, it’s crucial that we demonstrate strong grassroots support today. We still need 2,983 more activists like you to step up by 11:59 P.M. TONIGHT to demand federal action on the plastic crisis: Can we count on you to speak up right now by adding your name to our plastic pollution petition?

Thank you for taking action.
