Studies of hatchlings off the Florida coast have found that more than 90% of baby sea turtles have consumed plastic. There are 13,000 different chemicals that are used to make plastic, and researchers have determined that at least 25% of them are hazardous to humans.  Experts link a host of known diseases and dangers from exposure to these chemicals such as reproductive harms and risks to our cardiovascular health, kidneys, and nervous systems.  On top of polluting our bodies and our oceans, plastics are threatening our planet, too. Plastic production is a major contributor to the climate crisis by releasing massive amounts of greenhouse gases.
