Unhinged Ginni and Clarence Thomas

 

Every new bit of information about Ginni Thomas is more damning than the last. The Washington Post just reported that Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was in frequent contact with John Eastman, the lawyer advising Donald Trump and pressuring Mike Pence to overturn the presidential election results.¹

Ginni Thomas' heavy involvement in the effort to overthrow the 2020 election -- and American democracy as we know it -- is a CLEAR conflict of interest for Justice Clarence Thomas and raises serious questions about his role in that effort. Congress has to take action and investigate Clarence Thomas.

Ginni Thomas was already caught texting Mark Meadows, Trump's chief of staff, and Jared Kushner about strategies to steal the election. She was also caught emailing Arizona officials urging them to overturn Biden’s victory in that state.

Then months later Justice Thomas was the lone dissenter in a Supreme Court case about the January 6th insurrection, attempting to block the January 6th Commission from accessing White House documents.

It's hard to draw a clearer line of conflict of interest here. Justice Thomas is not an impartial juror on the nation's highest court. Instead, he and his wife are bitter hardline conservative activists who sided with Trump's Big Lie and worked to topple American democracy.

The fact that Ginni Thomas took active steps to overturn the results of the 2020 election is an appalling slap in the face to small "d" democracy. The American people deserve better -- and we deserve to know just how closely Ginni and Clarence Thomas' politics tie to the Supreme Court.
