Thanks to you, we won some important concessions from American International Group (AIG) — a massive fossil fuel insurer — when it restricted coverage for coal and tar sands oil earlier this year. But AIG is still insuring new oil and gas projects and investing billions of dollars in fossil fuels that drive deadly climate catastrophes. Here’s the deal: AIG’s annual shareholder meeting was today. The CEO talked about “solving risk issues” — but by enabling fossil fuel expansion, AIG is accelerating massive risks to us all. This is an important day to disrupt AIG’s moment on LinkedIn and send a powerful message to the CEO: Stop insuring deadly oil and gas expansion. Insure our future instead. Not on LinkedIn? You can send an email to AIG CEO Peter Zaffino and the board of directors using our handy click-to-email tool. Without crucial insurance coverage, fossil fuel companies can’t build new polluting infrastructure that is worsening wildfires, storms, and heatwaves around the world. But while AIG continues to support new oil and gas projects (while refusing to protect human rights), there’s a silver lining: We’ve successfully pressured the CEO once, so we know we can do it again! We need people to leave comments on AIG's LinkedIn post and let CEO Peter Zaffino know that continuing to insure and invest in fossil fuels is unacceptable. We can’t let the CEO get away with saying the right things and then continuing to invest even more money in the oil and gas projects that are destroying our environment and risking all our lives. If Zaffino sees people speaking out against fossil fuels and calling out greenwashing on AIG's page, it will force AIG to address the shortcomings of its climate commitments. Please take a couple minutes and tell AIG: Stop fueling the climate crisis and do your part to avoid catastrophic harm for the planet. If you're not sure what to write, I left a comment of my own that you can use for inspiration. Thanks for speaking up, Hannah Public Citizen P.S.
