MARKEY MAIL: Teachers are #StickingWithEd

Markey Mail
Friday, June 12, 2020

Team Markey is proud to announce that the American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts has endorsed Ed Markey for re-election to the United States Senate. The AFT Massachusetts represents 23,000 educators throughout the state.

It is our teachers who are shaping the next generation of leaders for our communities, our state, and our nation. And in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, our teachers have risen to the occasion, adapted their classrooms, and have continued to put their students' needs above their own.

As the first in his family to go to college, Ed knows that our education system is what makes our country strong. That is why Ed established the “E-rate” program as part of the 1996 Telecommunications Act to bringing broadband to schools and libraries across the nation, and delivering over $580 million to Massachusetts communities. Ed knows that no student should be left behind, and that equal access to technology and the Internet is vital to leveling the playing field for our children.

AFT Massachusetts President Beth Kotos said, “Senator Ed Markey has been a supporter of public education for decades and has consistently fought for adequate funding - not because we asked him to, but because he knows that public education is the pathway to better communities. He grew up in a household that valued education and the rights of workers. His record in support of labor and the rights of workers to organize is second to none.”

Ed is grateful to have the support of AFT Massachusetts
as we near closer to September 1, and he is proud to continue fighting for our teachers, students, and unions.
