A paper trail of federal money keeps showing up right behind the Trump name. Don Jr. joined drone maker Unusual Machines’ advisory board in November 2024—and within a year, one of the company’s largest orders ever was placed by the US Army. Last August, Don Jr.’s firm, 1789 Capital, bought into a startup called Vulcan Elements; three months later it landed a $620 million loan, the biggest in the Pentagon’s lending office history. ProPublica found the loan was initiated by senior White House official Peter Navarro—a friend of Don Jr.’s—and pushed through in a matter of weeks, sending Vulcan’s value skyrocketing from $200 million toward $2 billion. The sons swear their names have nothing to do with it, but the record says otherwise: roughly $3.7 billion in federal money went to at least ten companies tied to the brothers since the regime took power. That’s your April taxes, meant to defend the country, rerouted to whoever hired the right last name. Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, is now demanding the Pentagon’s inspector general investigate: “his sons are cashing in on defense contracts funded by hardworking taxpayers.” They built this in the dark to work in secret, betting nobody would ever turn on the lights. The investigation just started, the receipts are already public, and every dollar gets traced. This fight is only beginning. DOGE IS DEAD. THE DAMAGE ISN’T.
DOGE’s mandate expired July 4, the end date written into Trump’s own executive order. Elon Musk swore he’d cut $2 trillion. DOGE’s website claims $215 billion—a number they haven’t updated since January and that budget experts don’t buy. Even taking their figure at face value, that’s a dime in cuts for every dollar promised. Molly Hardy was the National Endowment for the Humanities’ 2024 employee of the year. DOGE laid her off anyway. Then in March, the agency came crawling back, emailing to ask if she’d return. She turned them down—not bitter, just clear-eyed: “It didn’t feel good. It just felt really sad.” She’s not alone, and that’s the part they didn’t see coming. All over the government, the wreckage is being reversed: HHS fired 10,000 workers and is now scrambling to hire 12,000. Agencies that bragged about the chainsaw are begging people to come back. Asked if shrinking the workforce was even still the goal, OPM chief Scott Kupor admitted: “I’m not hearing that.” And when Congress asked what DOGE actually accomplished, budget director Russell Vought had nothing to show: “We have no plans to do kind of a closing DOGE report.” The people who took a chainsaw to our government don’t get to slink off without a full accounting. We’ll see to that. TRUMP STOLE AMERICA’S BIRTHDAY. IT BACKFIRED.
Congress spent a decade planning America’s 250th birthday—a bipartisan commission built to throw a party every American could love. Trump shoved it aside, handed the celebration to his own loyalists, and turned the whole thing into a taxpayer-funded rally for himself. America answered. The performers quit rather than share his stage. Seven Democratic-governed states refused to send delegations. His June kickoff drew crowds so thin the aerial photos enraged him, and White House officials who’d posted them quietly deleted their posts. By the Fourth, the whole thing had come apart: a record 102 degrees, a dozen people hospitalized from the heat, and a Confederate flag on the North Carolina booth’s screen that led Mt. Olive, the country’s top pickle brand, to pull out in protest. Sen. Alex Padilla named the whole sorry spectacle for what it was: “President Trump couldn’t help but try making America’s 250th birthday all about himself.” Trump wanted a coronation. He got a heat wave and a boycott. CALIFORNIA SEALED TRUMP’S SLUSH FUND SHUT
Remember Trump’s fund to reward the Jan 6 rioters? Here’s where it stands. Earlier this year, the DOJ settled his bogus $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS for $1.776 billion, dressed up as compensation for the rioters and the loyalists who kept him afloat. He picked the number 1,776 on purpose. Subtle, these people are not. A federal judge froze the fund in May. Acting AG Todd Blanche told Congress the fund wasn’t going forward—but he wouldn’t put that in writing, so the judge extended the freeze indefinitely. The regime still wouldn’t officially kill it. They left the door cracked, betting they could quietly reopen it once no one was watching. California slammed that door shut. On June 30, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law taxing 100% of any payout from that fund to California residents—so the second anyone in the state tries to cash a check, every dollar is owed straight back to the taxpayers. Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel drew the line: “there will be no windfall for anyone who has engaged in corruption or attacked our democracy.” The regime never had the nerve to kill this fund on paper. So Newsom made sure that in California, it’s dead on arrival. That is not a policy. That is a broke-ass magician who's out of tricks, sweating through his tux, waving the same tired scarf for the ninth time and praying to Christ you don't notice both hands are empty and always were. It has worked before, God help us. This week showed exactly why staying in the room after the cameras leave matters. The numbers didn’t match the noise, the receipts didn’t match the spin, and one worker’s answer said more about this regime than any press conference ever could.
I am a news media veteran and a strong advocate for the free press. But it is the press that too often keeps Trump's name front and center in nearly every "news" report they air. This is so even of MsNow, of which I am an avid viewer. At some point, the new media has to start tellling the whole story or too many Americans won't grasp what truly is going on. You will find it difficult to find coverage of other world events as long as Trump gets all the attention. Perhaps if we didn't water the flower so much, it would wilt and die.
I Too was a news junky until the I could tell the media was all breathlessly talking about trump and bashing President Biden. The news media is what got the idiot re-elected! Most of our media is run by the billionaires so this is the only place we can get real news! Or you may try PBS or BBC.
And The Guardian. You get better news from Al Jazeera! There’s plenty of good news to read but what bothers me is most people still rely on broadcast and cable news. Rather than reading. So they don’t really know what they’re missing. It used to be we could rely on those sources but not anymore.
I love The Guardian! The NYT is pretty good too, IMHO, though I know some folks don’t like it. I find it decidedly blunt, stating the hard facts and keeping its integrity and credibility intact.
My 'like' is for the Guardian. I really haven't ever seen enough of the NYT to have an opinion.

I have an unrelated question: I never hear anyone speak to the fact that Trump himself benefitted from BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP! His father was from Germany his mother I think from Ireland and ONLY because of our laws was he born a citizen!!! I would like to hear something about that ... thanks again for all you do!!
I believe his grandfather was German and his mother was from Scotland. But yes. His first wife was Czech (?) and Melania is Slovenian.

We’ve only been irretrievably broken since 2016, when McConnel purposely started the process of making the courts, and especially SCOTUS so broken they all remain on life support to this day. If voters return the government to people who will reform, and overturn what has happened in the last decade, there is a slim hope to fix what has been shattered.
Two of the weekly protests I normally attend here in Charlotte were cancelled (Fri. afternoon due to extreme heat; Sat. morning because so many people were out of town for the 4th).
But this morning I did attend a special "Signs of Freedom" edition of a regular Monday morning protest. The previous times I've attended protests at this corner, we have had in the range of 15 - 18 protestor (plus a canine mascot). Which is IMO a respectable number for 8 am on a Monday!
There are 28 different signs with "Freedom is .... " and then a freedom that is under threat by the Trump Regime. I grabbed the sign that said "Freedom is ... Peaceful Protest".
The organizer came prepared with portable easels in case we fell short of enough participants to hold all the signs. But that wasn't necessary - THIRTY-EIGHT people showed up!! And the reception from the motorists driving by was enthusiastic!!
How much longer does our country have to witness this corruption before its finally stopped even before the midterms. He's laughing in our faces!!! What's the strategy? THIS ADMINISTRATION IN FULL MUST BE STOPPED ASAP!!!!!!

DOGE decimated the federal contracting force. Regulations were cast aside so DJT could reward his rich crooked pals and family members. Years of contracting expertise were removed from the federal work force. You can see the results every day in news stories. Incompetent and unethical contractors making billions. Shoddy work. Exorbitant profit margins. But here’s the cherry for the top of the sundae—the federal government is now hiring all new staff. Inexperienced in government contracting which is unlike other contracting. It used to take 3 years to get a new hire up to competent levels with the government’s ever-changing rules and regulations to prevent just what we’re seeing now. The stupidity and lack of forethought boggle my mind. And who is paying for it? We are.

I called my Republican senator to tell him not to vote to confirm Todd Blanche. His staffer looked up my address and read it to me. It made me think that she was also looking at my voter registration, which is Democratic, and would likely not even share my call with him. I'm thinking of registering as an Independent. The state where I live, Pennsylvania, does not have open primaries so I would be giving up my right to vote in the primaries, however, it might make the politicians listen to me since most think that Independents swing elections.

I want to see bills sent to Trump. Invoice for every unapproved expense. He never divested from his personal holdings so his Trump Organization activities are subject to direct attachment. Every Trump child is beholden to the country. Send them all an avalanche of bills due on arrival; charge interest for every day payment is late.

The Trump regime, every last one of them, including his family members and members of Congress and SCOTUS, who have benefitted from this blatant corruption must have their assets frozen so we can investigate. Full stop. Their full-blown hubris and their arrogance in openly admitting it are all the receipts we need, and they are everywhere: social media, televised press conferences and interviews, etc.
I imagine there will be people who will want their jobs back but at what cost? Wonder how the Looney Tunes will spin that? I think every single person needs to contact their election boards to find out how they will be protecting voters' rights and how to make sure people will feel safe going to polling stations.
So, Russell Vought says that there will be no after-action report on the effectiveness of DOGE. I know, but, still... they can't even be bothered to gin up a fake report claiming to prove how beneficial their radical cuts to services has been for the nation?
