Obama's expletive-laden takes on Trump and Don Jr. exposed in Fauci diaries
One of the more enjoyable tidbits to come from Rand Paul leaking Dr. Anthony Fauci's personal diaries? The normally reserved Barack Obama absolutely unloading on Donald Trump and his insufferable son, Don Jr.
It isn't terribly suprising, but it is refreshing to hear all the same. In a private phone call with the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the 44th president slammed Donald Trump as a "hopeless idiot" and a "pathologic[al] liar" and called his son, Donald Trump Jr., a "fucking moron." Hear, hear.
According to Fauci, Obama called him in late 2021 and, during an “incredibly memorable” 25-minute conversation, offered "to help in any way that he can" as the immunologist faced an "onslaught of slanderous lies" from the political right.
Realllly looking forward to Donnie's response any moment now...

Trump threatens to pull Todd Blanche’s AG nomination until after GOP holdouts leave office
America's wannabe dictator seems to think Todd Blanche's future as his permanent attorney general is as simple as waiting out the clock on outgoing GOP Sens. John Cornyn (TX) and Thom Tillis (NC), writing on Truth Social: "I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office."
Cornyn, who lost his primary reelection to Donald's chosen candidate, Ken Paxton, took to nüTwitter and said the president "is mistaken if he believes concerns about the provisions in his tax lawsuit settlement are limited to me and Senator Tillis." Tillis piled on, calling the move "about as politically tone deaf a posture as I have seen in this administration."
Trump claims Board of Peace has reached "historic" Gaza deal to disarm Hamas and withdraw Israeli troops
US officials claim that Hamas has agreed to a complete disarmament and will "hand security and political control to an international stabilization force of troops, a newly trained Palestinian police force, and a transitional group of technocratic experts overseeing basic services" in exchange for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
It remains to be seen if this is a true step on the road to elusive peace or simply Hamas calling Israel's bluff on whether or not they are actually willing to abandon their colonial ambitions in Gaza at the behest of Donald Trump, who is obviously desperate for any kind of win to distract the media from his disastrous Iran war, the disastrous US economy, or his administration's disastrous handling of the Epstein files.

ABC accuses Trump’s FCC of trying to censor the whole media industry
In a combative, 119-page regulatory filing to the agency, ABC flatly accused the Federal Communications Commission of "attempted censorship" and "retaliation" for, among other things, refusing to fire Jimmy Kimmel after the late night host made a joke Donald Trump didn't like. Network officials wrote, "The Administration has openly and repeatedly called for the revocation of ABC’s licenses, because it dislikes the content and viewpoints expressed on ABC network programs."
ABC also called out FCC Chair Brendan Carr by name, adding: "The retaliation against ABC is a signal to every media company in the country: accommodate the Administration’s view of what news coverage should look like or pay the price."
Folks, when Donald himself stands before audiences and reporters and repeatedly declares the media the "true enemy of the people," we would be wise to take him seriously. Fascism isn't a light switch. It creeps in over time, like an invasive weed.
Anthropic says Claude AI hacked 3 companies during cyber tests
Anthropic just acknowledged that it’s vaunted chatbot Claude managed to break out of its "sealed" test environment and hack into three unnamed, very real companies because of a misunderstanding between the San Francisco-based company and one of its evaluation partners (i.e., human error). Buried in the report is the curious little detail that one model — Mythos 5 — noticed it was on the live internet, then talked itself back into believing it was still a simulation.
Jeffrey Ladish, executive director of Palisade Research, which studies the offensive capabilities of AI systems, said he suspected a range of top AI companies had experienced other incidents that have gone undetected or had not been publicly disclosed. “This is only going to get worse as the models get smarter. They're going to be better at cheating. They're going to be better at lying.”
The good news? Robots don't seem quite ready to take over the world; the bad news? They're getting really good at lying to themselves — and us — about just how powerful they are becoming.

Fetterman helps Republicans block effort to end Trump’s Iran war
A day after flatly declaring, "I'm not going to be a Republican," first-term Sen. John Fetterman (PA) promptly returned to voting like one in the upper chamber, helping the GOP quash yet another war powers resolution 49-50 to rein in Donald Trump's reckless imperial adventurism in Iran.
We're not sure party affiliation will matter much when Fetterman is up for reelection in 2028. He's currently so unpopular in the Keystone State he's literally trailing "Someone Else" by 18 points in recent polling.
Mitch McConnell aide refuses to answer why there's still no video of obviously ailing Republican senator amid swirling rumors
Mitch McConnell’s senior communications adviser, Robert Steurer, simply walked away and ignored a reporter's question demanding to know why the 84-year-old senator's office has refused to release a proof-of-life video. McConnell hasn't been seen in public in 47 days, and the two still photographs released since his hospitalization on June 14 have done little to quell the conspiratorial speculation.
We here at Daily Dose of Democracy headquarters in Louisville also want to know: when will our senior senator finally return to office and officially continue ignoring the wants, wishes, and collective well-being of his constituents, as he has for the past 43 years?

With Donald Trump's approval rating cratering across the board and his Iran quagmire dragging him deeper into the muck by the day, Democrats are looking damn near inevitable. Let’s do this, people!
