In 1973, Victor Jara – the legendary Chilean folk singer called the "Bob Dylan of Chile" – was tortured and murdered during Pinochet's military coup in a Santiago stadium. And for decades, his killer hid in Florida, protected by distance and denial. Victor Jara's wife, Joan, refused to let the world forget what happened to her husband. She fought for decades for accountability while powerful people tried to protect her husband’s killers. When she came to our law firm, we took the case pro bono. We tracked the officer responsible to Florida. We built the case. A jury found him liable and ordered him to pay $28 million — and he was extradited to Chile to face justice. That fight taught me something: accountability does not arrive on its own, and democracy doesn't survive just because we assume it will.  Now, I'm running for Congress in NH-01, because this moment demands the same relentless pursuit of accountability, and I need your help.  Our next FEC reporting deadline is coming up at the end of June.
