Right now, NRDC is in court going head to head with the Trump administration to stop some of the most dangerous environmental rollbacks in modern history. These cases don't stand alone. They're built on the full strength of NRDC: Our scientists turn complex data into legal evidence. Then our lawyers meet polluters in court — prepared, proven, powerful. And we win. Below are just a few of the critical cases our donors are making possible right now: 1. Defending the foundation of climate protections A few months ago, the Trump administration weakened its own mandate to fight climate change by eliminating the "endangerment finding" — the government's official recognition that climate pollution is dangerous and must be addressed — and rules to cut the tailpipe pollution fueling the climate crisis and harming people's health. NRDC and our partners are suing to defend the science, the law, and the future these protections make possible. [Learn More] 2. Blocking drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge The administration is pushing to open one of the most pristine places in America, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, to more oil and gas drilling. This would threaten wildlife like polar bears and caribou, harm Indigenous communities, and permanently scar a landscape that has remained pristine for generations. NRDC is in court to stop this plan and protect a place that should never be sacrificed for oil profits. [Learn More] 3. Protecting whales, sea turtles, manatees and more from the "God Squad" In March, the "God Squad" — a committee of political appointees with the power to sign an extinction warrant for American wildlife — met to decide the fate of sea turtles, whales, and other marine wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico. In less than 20 minutes, they voted unanimously to allow oil and gas companies to bypass endangered species protections for vulnerable wildlife in the Gulf. If allowed to stand, it would set a dangerous precedent: that protections for even the most endangered wildlife can be cast aside whenever industry demands it. NRDC is suing to stop this move and defend one of our nation's most important environmental laws. [Learn More] 4. Challenging air pollution rules that put a price on your life New air pollution standards would weaken limits on harmful emissions while downplaying the human cost. That means more respiratory illness, more hospital visits, and more premature deaths in communities across the country. NRDC is in court to challenge these unlawful standards and fight for protections that put people first. [Learn More] 5. Fighting to keep toxic mercury and pollution out of our air Protections that limit mercury and other dangerous air pollutants have prevented brain damage, cancer, and serious illness for years. Now, those safeguards are being stripped away, allowing more toxic pollution to contaminate our air and water. NRDC and our partners are in court to restore these lifesaving protections and prevent lasting harm to communities nationwide. [Learn More] 6. Safeguarding a critical ocean monument from destruction The Trump administration is attempting to unlawfully open the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument to destructive commercial fishing. This monument — the only marine monument in the Atlantic — was set aside and protected deliberately... because it is too rare, too important, too fragile to lose.
