Tuesday Afternoon News Updates as Trump SOTU Boycott Grows — 2/24/26
Hi all, and Happy Tuesday. Today, you are all making history. As a community, we are leading the largest boycott of a State of the Union in history — and Trump and MAGA Mike Johnson are already lashing out.
Trump has already sent emails raging against our event. MAGA Mike Johnson this morning called it “detestable.”
That’s because it is becoming increasingly clear that the conversation across the country is not centered on Trump’s upcoming address. Instead, Americans are turning their attention toward a different kind of gathering. Tonight, the MeidasTouch Network, alongside our partners MoveOn, will host the People’s State of the Union. Based on reporting from Scott MacFarlane and other sources, at least 40 Democratic members of Congress are expected to skip Trump’s address. That number continues to grow.
For those asking where to watch our event, you can stream it live on our YouTube channel by clicking here. Be sure to set your notifications on YouTube now.
Members of Congress are making their position unmistakably clear. Representative Angie Craig captured the sentiment when she said, “I would rather stick forks in my eyes than be here tonight to listen to Donald Trump talk about the state of the Union.” That reflects the broader mood among lawmakers who see participation in the traditional address as legitimizing this farce of a presidency.
This boycott does not exist in a vacuum. It comes amid new reporting about withheld documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein that reference allegations involving Donald Trump. NPR’s Stephen Fowler, building on brilliant reporting from Roger Sollenberger, reported that the Justice Department has withheld files connected to accusations that Trump sexually abused a minor. According to the investigation, the public Epstein database is missing dozens of pages referencing Trump.
NPR found that the Justice Department removed some documents from the public database where accusations against Jeffrey Epstein also mentioned Donald Trump. Even more concerning, more than 50 pages of FBI interviews and notes from conversations with a woman who accused Trump of sexual abuse decades ago when she was a minor have not been made public.
NPR identified these gaps by reviewing Bates numbers, the serial identifiers used in legal document production. These numbers showed cataloged materials that were never released. Some documents that mentioned Trump were briefly available and later removed. Others remain entirely absent despite laws mandating disclosure.
When asked for comment, Trump’s spokesperson repeated a familiar claim that he has been “totally exonerated on anything related to Epstein.” The documentary record raises serious questions that remain unanswered, and the information we are now learning shows that the DOJ was taking seriously an investigation into Trump related to child sex trafficking, per reporting.
Meanwhile, economic narratives coming from Trump allies continue to face brutal reality checks. Senator Markwayne Mullin claimed that inflation has been cut in half. Current figures show inflation rising month over month.
Other Republican officials have framed fear abroad as a sign of strength. Representative Andrew Clyde stated that the United States is “feared on the world stage because of President Trump.” That framing highlights a shift away from traditional alliances built on cooperation and mutual trust.
A quick aside while you are here: I’d love to highlight one of our favorite sponsors who has sponsored this post and helped this network grow. What’s the one small shift I’ve actually maintained this year? Reclaiming my mornings. I realized a night of fun shouldn’t cost me an entire day of productivity. So, my shift is planning a balanced night out to ensure a high-quality morning after. I rely on ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol to support that goal and keep my social life and my wellness goals aligned. ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol Probiotic Drink is the world’s first genetically engineered probiotic. It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
Here’s how it works: When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut. It’s a build up of this byproduct, not dehydration, that’s to blame for rough days after drinking Pre-Alcohol produces an enzyme, to break this byproduct down. Just remember to make Pre-Alcohol your first drink of the night, drink responsibly, and you’ll feel your best tomorrow. Ready to try it? Go to zbiotics.com/MIGHTY now. You’ll get 15% off your first order when you use MIGHTY at checkout. Plus, it’s backed by a 100% Money-Back Guarantee, so there’s no risk! Subscriptions are also available for maximum consistency.
Back to my report.
Polling also continues to get worse for Trump and the GOP. Representative Tom Emmer dismissed recent polling declines by saying, “I don’t trust these polls.” Well, the data don’t lie.
Beyond policy and polling, Trump’s financial schemes have been absolutely devastating for investors. The Trump and Melania meme coins have fallen 92 percent and 99 percent from their peaks. Retail investors have absorbed the overwhelming losses while insiders reportedly extracted significant fees and proceeds. Estimates show retail losses exceeding $4.3 billion across nearly two million wallets.
With Trump, it’s just one grift after another. He’s now airing a commercial on Fox promoting “Fight, Fight, Fight” watches. You can get yours for just…$100,000. I wish I were kidding. This is what Trump is doing as the nation reels from an affordability crisis.
Moving onto trade, Trump recently announced plans to raise global tariffs to 15 percent under the 1974 Trade Act after his IEEPA tariffs were struck down by the Supreme Court. However, he never actually signed the order. That means the effective rate remains at 10 percent. Similarly, his claimed deployment of a hospital ship to Greenland did not materialize. Trump keeps saying things in public or on social media that are outright lies and fabrications, yet Republicans continue to go along with his delusions.
In other foreign policy news, the CIA Director will join Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 3 p.m. today for a briefing to the Gang of Eight on Iran, as reports warn that a war with Iran could be imminent. The Gang of Eight refers to the eight congressional leaders who receive the most sensitive classified intelligence briefings. We’ll be monitoring this situation closely.
The truth is more important than ever. Tonight’s event will focus on issues that are too often sidelined, bringing together elected officials and citizens for a conversation grounded in transparency and accountability. Facts matter. Truth matters. Democracy matters. And we will give Trump’s fascist clown show no quarter.
See you tonight! Let’s make history!
COMMENTS:
Ben, little misleading thing in the article you sent. Quote:
"Members of Congress are making their position unmistakably clear. Representative Angie Craig captured the sentiment when she said, “I would rather stick forks in my eyes than be here tonight to listen to Donald Trump talk about the state of the Union.” That reflects the broader mood among lawmakers who see participation in the traditional address as legitimizing this farce of a presidency."
The full quote from that lady is "I would rather stick forks in my eyes than be here tonight to listen to Donald Trump talk about the State of the Union, but this is the People's house, and I will not abandon the People's house."
I'd say that reflects the continuing mood of democrats continuing to participate and being all bark and no bite.
There are some who feel a different commitment.
EPSTEIN SURVIVORS will be in attendence.
Ilhan Omar is bringing guests who were abused by Ice Gestapo.
There are surely others with their personal beliefs.
It seems unfair to judge those whose views disagree with you.
NEVER STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT EPSTEIN COVER-UP!
DEAN BLUNDELL reported that there are STORAGE LOCKERS belonging to EPSTEIN that FBI didn't open/investigate.
This if from NARATIV BY ZEV SHALEV:
You know about the scrubbed files:
DOJ CAUGHT SCRUBBING TRUMP FILES
NPR confirmed today what independent journalist Roger Sollenberger first reported: the Justice Department has withheld or removed Epstein files that directly implicate President Trump in the sexual abuse of minors. At least 53 pages of FBI interview documents and notes are missing from the public database — including records from four FBI interviews with a woman who accused Trump of sexually assaulting her when she was 13 years old. The FBI found her credible enough to interview four times. Only the first interview — the one that doesn’t mention Trump — is public. The other three? Gone. As Sollenberger documented, by withholding these interviews, the DOJ has effectively handed Ghislaine Maxwell — who is seeking clemency from Trump — potential blackmail leverage over the sitting president. A second accuser’s file was removed from the database entirely after publication, then quietly restored after reporters flagged it. Tonight, Trump addresses the nation. The state of the DOJ’s Epstein database tells you more about the actual state of the union than anything he’ll say from that podium.
Who at FBI ordered "STAND DOWN" ?
NEW MEXICO ZORRO RANCH was never investigated for BURIED BODIES!
FBI ORDERED NYPD TO “STAND DOWN”
MY NOTE: ZORRO RANCH IN NEW MEXICO IS WHERE IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT BODIES ARE BURIED!
Ryan Goodman at Just Security unearthed documents showing that five days after Epstein’s July 2019 arrest, the FBI directed NYPD’s Special Victims Unit to halt all Epstein investigations. The email is explicit: “SVU has been directed to stand down and that all Epstein stuff needs to go to and through us.” New York was the epicenter of Epstein’s crimes. The FBI shut down the investigators best positioned to reach co-conspirators. New Mexico’s attorney general also revealed his state’s probe was closed in 2019 at the same request. This wasn’t negligence. It was coordination.
SECRET DEA DRUG PROBE EXPOSED
CBS News revealed a previously unknown five-year DEA investigation targeting Epstein and 14 others for suspicious wire transfers tied to drug trafficking and prostitution. The 69-page memo documents $50 million in suspicious transactions across the Virgin Islands, New York, Switzerland, France, and the Cayman Islands. The prosecutors who eventually arrested Epstein didn’t even know this probe existed.
EPSTEIN CONSPIRATOR ATTEMPTS SUICIDE
Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland was hospitalized after a suicide attempt, his lawyer confirmed. Jagland was charged with aggravated corruption on February 12 after Epstein files revealed he served as Epstein’s conduit to Putin. Europe is prosecuting. America is hiding files.
FRANCE BANS KUSHNER
France banned U.S. Ambassador Charles Kushner from meeting government officials after he refused a diplomatic summons. Twice. Trump’s ambassador to one of America’s oldest allies is now persona non grata in Paris.
BRETT - As always, many thanks for speaking out about crucial environmental issues!
It took decades to get MERCURY & CLEAN AIR STANDARDS in place to address DIRTY COAL.
Not only is MERCURY an issue, but numerous other chemicals from BURNING, as well as COAL ASH deposited in unlined pits that jeopardize drinking water.
That 47 companies have already been exempted is horrifying!
I attended a public hearing regarding the last DIRTY COAL PLANT to be closed in MASSACHUSETTS. Residents said they couldn't open their windows due to SOOT, couldn't hang laundry or go outside. Lots of asthma as well.
PLEASE DON'T OVERLOOK GLYPHOSATE (ROUNDUP) that is sprayed on wheat in storage silos to prevent sprouting. There are HARMLESS SUBSTITUTES!
FROM RON FILIPKOWSKI:
excerpts:
… After intense backlash from his former MAHA followers on glyphosate, RFK Jr. attempted to defend himself on social media: “Pesticides and herbicides are toxic by design, engineered to kill living organisms. When we apply them across millions of acres and allow them into our food system, we put Americans at risk. Chemical manufacturers have paid tens of billions of dollars to settle cancer claims linked to their products, and many agricultural communities report elevated cancer rates and chronic disease.”
… “Unfortunately, our agricultural system depends heavily on these chemicals. If these inputs disappeared overnight, crop yields would fall, food prices would surge, and America would experience a massive loss of farms even beyond what we are witnessing today. The consequences would be disastrous. I support Trump’s Executive Order to bring agricultural chemical production back to the US.”
… MAHA activist Mike Adams: “RFK Jr. says Big Ag is essentially ‘too big to fail’ so we can't stop the mass poisoning of the crops. Disappointing. Glyphosate is completely banned in Vietnam, Togo, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. Using glyphosate as a desiccant (drying agent) is illegal in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark, the Czech Republic and the entire EU!”
… “Yet somehow all those countries still manage to produce food for all their citizens. How is that possible if glyphosate, as we are told by propagandists, is ‘necessary to grow food!’? Turns out they are just lying. You don't need glyphosate to grow food. You need carbon dioxide, sunlight, water and healthy soils, plus minerals, nitrogen, warmth and time.”
… Martha Bueno: “Dear RFK Jr, Thank you for standing for poisoning… *checks notes* to protect the industry. Silly me. I guess I never imagined the poison being sprayed our food was for our own benefit. In the end, you sold out pretty quickly. I hope it was worth it.”
… Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY): “Some wheat is sprayed with glyphosate just before harvest to help dry the crop. The weed killer is applied to wheat intended for human consumption. The EU banned this use. Some claim glyphosate is used for desiccation on only 3% of US wheat crops. We should end this practice.”
… Zen Honeycutt, a MAHA activist who serves as executive director of Moms Across America: “The implications of this executive order are irreversible. Not only has Trump gone back on his word to go after pesticides, destroying the delicate trust that was being built by the MAHA movement with the govt, but he paved the path for glyphosate to continue destroying farmland, fertility, and our families’ health for generations to come.”
… Iowa-based right-wing talk show host Steve Deace: “Wanna lose absolutely everything in the midterms? And I mean absolutely everything it is possible to lose? Demoralizing MAHA is the painful Find Out portion of this equation.”
… Former Newsmax host and right-wing podcaster Emerald Robinson: “Congrats to the WH for alienating all the MAHA voters over glyphosate just before the midterms. Great job, everybody.”
… Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC): “Pesticide makers should not get immunity.”
… Dr. Nisha Patel: “So you’re telling me MAHA isn’t banning glyphosate or taking real regulatory action on pesticides and food dyes? The MAHA moms must be pissed. Because those were their rallying cries. If the promise was a sweeping transformation of America’s health, this feels… underwhelming.”
