Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary — is politicizing medicine, spewing vaccine conspiracies, and rejecting science. In June: RFK Jr. fired every single member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to replace them with his own dangerously unqualified choices. ACIP is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is responsible for issuing recommendations on vaccination. During the pandemic, this committee’s expert advisors were a trusted source of COVID-19 vaccine information — and they advise on other vaccines, like the standard childhood vaccine series, as well. Now, under RFK Jr.’s handpicked leadership, they fearmonger and spread conspiracy theories about vaccines instead. In August: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved new COVID-19 vaccines — but, in a move praised by RFK Jr., spread doubts about their safety and effectiveness and restricted access to them. The new guidance is confusing and is already making it harder for people who want their yearly booster to get it. That same day: RFK Jr. removed Susan Monarez, the CDC Director, because she refused to fire the CDC leadership team and refused to rubber stamp the restrictive and confusing new COVID-19 vaccine recommendations. Senior CDC officials resigned in protest and former CDC directors who served under both Democratic and Republican presidents warned that his moves “should alarm every American, regardless of political leanings”. We sent a letter to Donald Trump to urge him to fire Robert F. Kennedy Jr. And we need every member of Congress to speak out against RFK Jr. as well.
