For decades, coal plants dumped toxic coal ash into unlined landfills. This allowed harmful pollution to leak into groundwater, threaten drinking water sources, and put communities across the country at risk.
Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finally closed the dangerous loopholes that allowed coal plants to avoid cleaning up their toxic coal ash waste. Hundreds of coal plants were required to clean up their old landfills.
But now, Trump’s EPA wants to delay compliance deadlines, stalling the cleanup of some sites until after 2030. And this isn’t the end goal – it’s expected that Trump’s EPA will use this time to significantly weaken or rollback the requirements entirely.
We can’t let this happen!
