California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday invoked Alabama as being one of the “top three murder states in America” while claiming President Donald Trump’s focus on crime is disingenuous.

Newsom rattled off the crime rates in other Southern states like Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.

He noted the crime rates in those states are higher than California’s and argued that the National Guard is better served in those places than the Golden State.

“Alabama’s top three murder states in America. Where’s the president of the United States? I thought he cared? These are the folks, these are his states that voted for him,” Newsom said.

According to FBI crime statistics from 2022, Alabama’s homicide rate of 10.9 per 100,000 people is the fourth-highest of any state.

The governor accused Trump of not being serious about cracking down on crime if he is not considering putting National Guard troops in Alabama and other southern states.

“His state of mind does not seem to be focused on the issue of crime and violence. It’s about expression of authoritarianism,” Newsom said.

“He reflects and waxes ... talking about being a dictator. I hope people pay attention.”

On Tuesday, Trump elaborated on why he suggested the country would prefer a “dictator” as he slammed the Democratic cities of Baltimore and Chicago.

“So the line is that I’m a dictator, but I stop crime,” the president said as he held a cabinet meeting Tuesday. “So a lot of people say, ‘if that’s the case, I’d rather have a dictator.’

“But I’m not a dictator,” Trump said, “I just know how to stop crime.”

Trump’s federalization of the Washington, D.C. police force and use of National Guard troops from Southern states there has been criticized by Democrats who accuse the president of being an authoritarian.

We have been getting a lot of attention on Fox News lately, but here are some cold, hard FACTS you won't hear on that network.

πŸ’° Middle class families in California pay LESS in taxes than in states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

πŸ‘· 50 million of the 52 million jobs created since the Cold War have been created in Democratic administrations. Republican presidents have one thing in common: recession.

πŸ”΄ Life expectancy, infant mortality, deaths of despair, wages and uninsured rates are all worse off in red states.

🚨 For Greg Abbott: California is the fourth largest economy in the WORLD. We contribute $83 billion to the federal government while Texas takes $71 billion.

πŸ₯‡ California is #1 in manufacturing, #1 in farming, #1 in new business starts, #1 in tech and VC investments, #1 in Fortune 500 companies, and the #1 public higher education system in the country.

πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘§ California has some of the strongest gun laws in the country and as a result has a 43% lower gun death rate than the rest of the U.S. according to data from the CDC while President Trump oversaw the largest spike in homicides recorded in U.S. history.

😑 Republicans across the country are fanning the flames of culture wars to distract from the fact that on health, wealth, and economic outcomes they are failing.

πŸ—³️ When Democrats go on OFFENSE, we WIN.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Gavin Newsom

***CONSPICUOUS LIES!****

If they accuse the DC POLICE of underreporting CRIME, how do they know it DECLINED?

As of Tuesday evening, Joint Task Force-DC said there had been a 37% drop in carjackings in DC, a 50% decrease in robberies, and a 23% drop in violent crime since the mission began. Though Trump justified the troop surge to Washington by saying that crime was “out of control” in the city, violent crime declined in 2024 and has declined again so far in 2025. The Justice Department has said it’s investigating whether that data from the DC Metropolitan Police Department was manipulated.

***$1 MILLION PER DAY TO PLANT GRASS?****

Some soldiers have also been doing things like replanting grass. Manner said that some are now referring to the troops as “National Gardeners,” which he believes is also “very deflating” for them.

“To date, Guardsmen have cleaned more than 3.2 miles of roadways, collected more than 500 bags of trash, and disposed of three truckloads of plant waste in coordination with the U.S. National Park Service,” the Joint Task Force-DC said in an update on Monday.

Trump’s executive order in March, titled “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful,” ordered federal agencies to restore federal monuments that have been defaced or damaged, remove graffiti from local areas, and “uplift and beautify public spaces and generate in the citizenry pride and respect for our Nation.”
