We deserve a vote on Trump’s turbo-charged Pentagon spending

Every year, Congress decides how much money to spend on the military. Of course, weapons contractors and their relentless pursuit of profits heavily influence this process. And so the military budget keeps climbing even while real human needs are underfunded. This year, thanks to President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ “Big Ugly Law”, more than $150 billion will be added to the Pentagon budget — taking it over $1 *trillion* for the first time in history. So Representatives Mark Pocan and Ilhan Omar are offering an amendment to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act that would claw back the $150 billion added by the Big Ugly Law and free it up for other true, human needs. With $150 billion, America could: Create 870,000 new clean energy jobs Or give 37 million homes solar electricity for 10 years Or create 1.17 million Head Start slots for kids for 10 years Or give more than 3 million adults low-income health care for 10 years We need your help to convince members of Congress to support this amendment, bring the Pentagon’s budget down, and invest in everyday Americans instead. Can you send an email to the Chair of the House Rules Committee — which is meeting on Monday to consider which amendments will get votes on the floor — and tell her to support the Pocan-Omar amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)?
