Every year, Congress decides how much money to spend on the military. Of course, weapons contractors and their relentless pursuit of profits heavily influence this process. And so the military budget keeps climbing even while real human needs are underfunded. This year, thanks to President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ “Big Ugly Law”, more than $150 billion will be added to the Pentagon budget — taking it over $1 *trillion* for the first time in history. So Representatives Mark Pocan and Ilhan Omar are offering an amendment to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act that would claw back the $150 billion added by the Big Ugly Law and free it up for other true, human needs.
