Apparently Donald Trump thinks his trade war is going so well that he's just gonna start slapping even more tariffs on even more products that Americans use every day. Now, that of course, is me being a bit facetious, as I'm sure you could tell, because the trade war is decidedly not going well for the United States. Um, market crashes, people losing 4 0 1 Ks. Um, you even had Walmart this week that said, we're not even gonna release our quarterly financials because things are about to get horrible. Um, everything's really, really bad for us. In spite of that, Donald Trump told the National Republican Congressional Caucus this week that, you know what I'm gonna do next? I'm gonna raise the price of prescription drugs for American consumers by putting tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals. Now, this comes at a time when the United States pays a higher price for our pharmaceutical, you know, prescription drugs than any other country on the planet. The markups in the United States are far higher. I mean, thousands of percentage points higher here in the United States than anywhere else on the world. Okay? We pay more. And that of course, has been a flashpoint for politicians. It's been a flashpoint for American consumers and voters. We are off and we want it to change. And to his credit, Biden helped reduce that.
And Trump, by the way, also this week, got rid of the $35 cap on insulin, which went into effect immediately. So he's already raised prescription drug prices on us twice now with that, and he wants to do it a third time. You know, why not? We're already getting gouged every time we have to go fill a prescription. Why not screw us a little bit more? Trump says he's doing this so that these pharmaceutical companies will bring their production over here to the United States, and they're not gonna do that because there is no incentive for these companies to do it. Yes, we have plenty of pharmaceutical companies that are born and bred right here in the United States, and they do their production here, but we also have a lot of pharmaceutical companies based in Europe. I know that, um, partially because Mike Papantonio over the years, has had to go to Europe to take depositions of these CEOs. And the one I always talk about, 'cause it's the best one I've ever seen, he made one of the CEOs cry, not kidding. He made an executive cry during a deposition. It was truly a sight to behold. I've watched that video like a thousand times. I love it. But they live there. That's where their companies were born, and that's where they produce these products, and they can do it easier, faster,
Cheaper. And here's the thing about producing pharmaceuticals that I don't think Donald Trump's understands. It's not like producing a car. Okay? Yes, pharmaceuticals are produced in a factory, but kind of in the same way that like cookies are, you know, the whole process is pretty much automated. Yeah. You have a few workers there supervising, making sure the equipment doesn't get gummed up with chocolate chips, but you're not having people rolling out the dough and all that. It's machines that do the whole thing, okay? So you're not talking about bringing a, a factory from Bollinger Ingelheim over here to make pharmaceuticals, that's gonna hire 5,000 people and put these blue collar folks to work. That's not what happens in the production of pharmaceuticals. And yet our delusional president seems to think that's what it is, that he's, he's crazy, but more importantly, he's stupid.
