Saturday Message from Meidas Co-Founder
By Ben Meiselas
Hey Meidas Mighty. First, I want to wish my wife Xochitl, the love of my life, a very happy birthday today. I love you, Xochitl.
As you may know, when I started the MeidasTouch Network, I didn’t have a deep political background. I was a civil rights lawyer who fought for families in Bakersfield and Colin Kaepernick off the football field.
For me, at the heart of MeidasTouch Network is family, even more than politics. It’s worth reflecting on that this Saturday, on my wife’s birthday, and amidst the chaos and upheaval of the Trump administration. At the center of this pro-democracy movement is family.
I started this network with my family—my two younger brothers, Brett and Jordy. We felt that corporate media was failing in speaking the truth about the threats to democracy, and we built this network brick by brick with no outside investors to change and reinvent the media landscape. Thank you to all the subscribers of this Substack (subscribe now if you can).
We felt that our lives and our families were under attack by the dangerous and fascistic plans of Trump and MAGA.
As we built the MeidasTouch Network, we became connected with the pro-democracy family here, the Meidas Mighty.
Our growth has been fueled by our subscribers to this Substack and the Meidas Mighty family.
We know that, like us, you are fighting every day to protect your family from the Trump regime.
The Meidas Mighty has become, in a sense, a big supportive family fighting to make America free once again.
Trump and MAGA have weaponized the concept of the “family” to attack American families (and families in other countries as well).
Trump and MAGA have used manufactured rage to divide families and make them fear the “other.”
Donald Trump frequently said on the campaign trail that “only he could be your protector.”
I find that utterly repulsive. Trump has been the great divider of families and the great destroyer of the American dream.
One of my biggest frustrations with corporate media is how they either “gamify” politics or “both sides” issues and normalize the hate spewed by MAGA.
The way we avoid that here at the MeidasTouch Network is to remember that, at its core, politics should be about family and families.
Trump never had a loving family.
He doesn’t care about families.
He cares about himself only.
Everyone else is disposable.
Trump’s entire life has been about destroying families.

In business, when he bankrupted his companies, he would screw over contractors and screw over their families.
He wouldn’t care.
Now, Trump is screwing over millions of American families with his actions.
This isn’t a red state, blue state, or purple state thing.
Objectively, unless you are a billionaire or oligarch, he is inflicting pain and suffering on families.
Trump’s team is calling the pain they are inflicting all different things now. They call it a “detox” or “short-term corrections” or some other euphemism.
It’s an assault on families.
We shouldn’t overcomplicate or over-intellectualize this.
We need to fight for families.
We need to fight for jobs.
We need to fight for workers.
We need to fight for equality.
We need to fight for empathy and humanity.
We need to fight to make things affordable.
We need to fight for housing and education.
Trump and MAGA are fighting against all these things.
We will use the power of our independent media network to fight for your families and the millions of families out there.
We know that each of your families has a unique story.
Like the story of my wife, the daughter of immigrants from Guadalajara, who was the first in her family to graduate from college.
My wife, who is the mother of our five-month-old daughter, Ximena Meiselas, now worries about ICE raids in the neighborhood where she grew up and where her sister, nieces, and nephews still live.
Everyone has their story right now.
And as I juxtapose those stories with Trump’s big “crypto conference” at the White House yesterday, where “billionaire crypto bros” bragged about how rich they are, it makes me know that the fight we have all embarked on together is one we must win—for the sake of all our families.
My pledge to you is that no matter how big this media network gets, we will never forget our humble beginnings, and we will always remain humble stewards of the news and of the reporting you expect to defend and fight for your family.
We are honored to fight for your families and to fight for the dream we all have—to pass on a better world for future generations of our families, our country, and our world.
We are grateful for all the Meidas Mighty out there and all the subscribers to this Substack.
We would love for you to subscribe to this Substack now if you can and help us hit our March subscriber goal to keep growing and staying at the top of the podcast and YouTube charts.
You can also gift a subscription to someone you know.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for being part of our pro-democracy family in the Meidas Mighty.
