A New Movement Is Coming

Happy Wednesday, readers, and thank you for reading Today’s American News. We are your source for news and analysis on the circus that is American politics and entertainment.
Schumer: GOP doesn’t have the votes to pass stopgap funding measure… “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned Republicans on Wednesday that they do not have the votes to approve a House-passed stopgap measure to keep the government funded through September, with a fast-approaching Friday deadline to avert a government shutdown,” CBS News reports. Schumer noted that funding the government should involve bipartisan input that Republicans did not afford in this case. Republicans’ bill “increases defense spending and funding for veterans' health care, while decreasing non-defense spending below 2024 levels. It also includes more funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.” Ah yes, because more ICE agents are needed to go into schools, churches and hospitals for Donald Trump.
Judge orders DOGEsh*t to turn over key documents to 14 Democratic states attorneys general… ABC News reports, “A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the Department of Government Efficiency to hand over key documents that may shed light on the group’s attempt to reduce the size of the federal government. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan – who previously oversaw President Donald Trump’s election interference case – ordered the government to turn over materials related to DOGE and Elon Musk’s efforts to reduce the size of federal agencies, freeze federal contracts, access sensitive databases and terminate federal employees.” ABC News further notes: “Chutkan is also considering whether to issue an injunction blocking Musk from running DOGE.” If only!
Resistance to Trump fuels protests across the country… Donald Trump wants to “intimidate us into silence,” The Alt Media’s Adam Parkhomenko writes, but it’s not working. “He’s firing civil servants if they don’t first and foremost serve him. He’s denying funds to colleges and universities that disagree with him. He’s even ordering deportation – calling it a first “of many to come” – for a legal, permanent resident for exercising free speech instead of Trump speech.” Parkhomenko continues, “Trump wants to instill fear among Americans who oppose him. He’s hoping we stay home, sit on our hands, and don’t speak out. But the Resistance is having none of it.” The post includes 20 pictures and videos of protests across the country, a partial list of Trump-aimed protest coverage over a three-day period. Take a look.
Not that he cares, but Elon’s Department of Education mass firings will harm students with disabilities disproportionately… NBC News reports, “Massive layoffs initiated this week at the Education Department could hamstring the federal government’s efforts to assist students with disabilities, former officials and education experts said, citing blows to the agency’s civil rights and research divisions. On Tuesday, the department began laying off around 1,300 employees, cutting nearly half the staff in its Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and over 100 from the Institute of Education Sciences, according to information released by American Federation of Government Employees Local 252, the union for department staff members. The cuts in those two divisions mean there will be far fewer staff members to finish the 12,000 pending federal investigations into allegations of civil rights violations at schools — roughly half of which involve disability issues — and fewer employees to review and distribute government-funded research into effective ways to educate children with autism or severe intellectual disabilities.”
Today’s Buzz
NOOOOO!!!! We love Scarlett Johansson but we don’t like this… Avengers star Scarlett Johansson, who plays Natasha Romanoff AKA Black Widow, told InStyle that she doesn’t take selfies with fans – and why. "It really offends a lot of people," Johansson said, with the offended parties being the celebrities, apparently. Not great, but we still love her. Refusing a selfie, she said, "doesn't mean I'm not appreciative, of course, that people are fans, or happy to see me. But I always say to people, 'I'm not working.' [And that means] I don't want to be identified as being in this time and place with you. I'm doing my own thing." Some of us, on behalf of her fans, want to scream “Just take the photo!” However, we can appreciate that she wants to be a human even though she is a celebrity.
Today’s Furry Friend
A yellow lab raising a wild boar was definitely *not* on your furry friend bingo card, but it’s too cute not to watch. Meet Yezhu & Biu Biu, featured on Dodo’s series, “Odd Couples.”
