I'm writing with some good news: Louis DeJoy is finally stepping down as Postmaster General. [1]
Ever since his appointment nearly 5 years ago, Common Cause members like you have been on the front lines to defend our Postal Service against DeJoy's attempted cuts and service rollbacks. Together, we:
It feels good to finally take DeJoy down, but I don't need to tell you that this isn't a complete victory.
DeJoy was able to do serious damage to the Postal Service during his tenure – like shutting down key distribution centers, undermining vote-by-mail, and hiking the price of stamps [2] – and President Trump will want a replacement who can finish the job.
And across the entire federal government, Elon Musk is trying to bring DeJoy's same approach of slashing public goods for private profit to the Department of Education, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and other agencies we all rely on for key services. [3]
Removing DeJoy is a major victory – showing that when we speak out for what’s right, we can truly make a difference.
Let’s build on this momentum and keep pushing for a Postal Service – and a government – that truly serves the people.
Thanks for all you do,
Aaron Scherb, Senior Director of Legislative Affairs
and the team at Common Cause
