Happy Friday friends! You’ve made it through the work week and we welcome you back to Today’s American News, bringing you news and analysis on the circus that is American politics and entertainment. House Democrats save America from government shutdown… Just in time for the holidays, Democrats in the U.S. House have saved the country from yet another Trump government shutdown. The House passed a bill funding the government to March on a vote of 366-34, with 196 Democrats and 170 Republicans voting in favor. The news comes as a relief to federal workers and it is a rebuke of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who favored an extreme government funding measure that failed in the House yesterday. The bill must be passed by the U.S. Senate by midnight. U.S. removes bounty on de facto Syrian leader… Ahmad al-Sharaa is not the leader of Syria that the United States would have picked, but he is the leader Syria more or less has. As Syria reels from the aftermath of more than a decade of civil war, which may continue, our country has lifted the $10 million bounty on al-Sharaa’s head. The move comes after a high-level diplomatic meeting in which U.S. officials were satisfied enough to remove the bounty. Al-Sharra is the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Syrian rebel group that the U.S. continues to designate as a terrorist organization. He was previously a leader in ISIS, but claims to have reformed. Agency that Elon Musk wants to scrap waging widespread Zelle fraud suit… The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, set up following the 2008 financial meltdown, is among the agencies Elon Musk wants to scrap as part of his fake job within the incoming Trump Administration. Some news today paints a perfect picture of why the agency is so essential. The news? Zelle, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo failed “to protect consumers from widespread fraud," according to the bureau. Party City to close all stores… Facing $1.7 billion in debt and hundreds of stores behind on rent, Party City is closing all stores. Spirit Halloween and online retailers have supplanted much of the company’s business in recent years. The company has offered items on Amazon since 2018. The company’s CEO called the announcement “without question the most difficult message that I’ve ever had to deliver.” Today’s Buzz America’s favorite murder suspect is in same facility as Diddy… Two storylines converge as Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO, is being held at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York along with Sean “Diddy” Combs.” Combs was in court yesterday on a wide range of charges stemming from his so-called “freak-offs” while (bunkmate???) Mangione has become an unlikely hero and heartthrob in some circles. Only in America! Today’s Furry Friend Dogs remind us that there’s hope in the world. Martha was barely able to move when she was found by rescuers. Now she’s hopping around and available for adoption. Have a good weekend and check back in Monday for Today’s American News. |
