I can hardly believe the numbers. MoJo video correspondent Garrison Hayes posted the story “I spent a week with Black Republicans” just over a month ago, and already almost 2 million people have watched it. We’re not talking some buzzy, 10-second clip. Garrison produced a 20-minute master class on identity, policy, and political strategy that is so thoughtful and engrossing that it went viral. (I hope you’ll watch it too and tell us what you think.)
But before you do anything else, I hope you’ll show your support for all the urgent work that Mother Jones is doing in the runup to Election Day by making a donation right now. You could hardly pick a better time to do it. Thanks to a generous $50,000 digital matching gift we’ve received, any gift you make online this month will be matched dollar for dollar. Your contribution of $25 will count for $50, and your gift of $50 will be worth $100.
The fact is, Mother Jones is reaching audiences it never did before—not just on our website and via our magazine, but on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. That’s hugely important, and it’s not by accident either: We’ve worked hard to build our viewership there, because people on those apps deserve good journalism but generally get anything but. More and more Americans, especially young people, get their news not from articles or podcasts, but from short-form video. Those platforms are notoriously overrun with disinformation, but Mother Jones is fighting back with the truth. We’ve added brilliant creators—not just Garrison, but Kat Abughazaleh as well—and they have been doing an incredible job bringing rock-solid reporting where it’s needed most.
More people getting truthful, fact-checked reporting means more people engaging with the real world and means more possibilities for positive change.
But bringing solid journalism to folks in all these places is no small investment. We can do it only because readers like you chip in to help pay for it. Will you please help us make the most of the $50,000 digital matching gift? No matter what amount you send—$10, $100, or $1,000—it becomes twice as much. Every dollar and every donor really does make a difference.
