THE FEDERALIST SOCIETY SUPREME COURT has undermined important
protections for Americans and Senator Warren has acted to introduce legislation
in the SENATE to restore that protection.....please sign and SHARE!
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren just introduced the Senate version of the Stop Corporate Capture Act — an important bill that would counteract a deeply troubling ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's ruling is a gift to big corporations: It vastly expanded the ability of Big Business to attack rules that keep our air and water clean, safeguard workers and consumers, and protect the American people from corporate greed and wrongdoing. This bill has already been introduced in the House and, after many messages from Public Citizen supporters, dozens of additional representatives signed on as co-sponsors. So now we need a strong show of support for Sen. Warren’s bill to build momentum in the Senate and render this flawed ruling moot. Urge them to co-sponsor the Stop Corporate Capture Act right away >> Thanks, P.S. I’ve included my email about the House version of the bill below if you’d like more information on the Supreme Court’s ruling and what this bill does about it: --------- The Supreme Court just issued a ruling that threatens the government’s ability to protect the public and the environment from harm. The ruling in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v. Department of Commerce overturns a 40-year-old legal doctrine called “Chevron deference” that instructs judges to defer to federal agencies about the meaning of a statute when the statute itself is ambiguous, and delegated authority to the agency to implement it. Here’s what this means in practical terms: The Supreme Court is, once again, siding with big corporations by making it easier to successfully challenge public protections — protections for workers, consumers, civil rights, our environment, and public health and safety. Now it is more likely that:
There’s no beating around the bush: This decision represents a threat to rules protecting clean air and water, safe workplace and products, and fair commercial and financial practices. But the fight isn’t over. Congress could still enshrine Chevron deference into law and moot this Supreme Court ruling. Please take a minute to email Congress. Tell them: Co-sponsor the Stop Corporate Capture Act to codify Chevron deference. Thanks for taking action, George |
