New Lawsuit Filed Against the USDA

The Animal Legal Defense Fund has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) for issuing an exhibitor’s license under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) to Yellowstone Bear World, an Idaho drive-thru facility with decades of known violations of state and federal law. Read about the lawsuit.

New Animal Law Update

England and Northern Ireland’s new Pet Abduction Act 2024 makes it a crime to abduct a companion animal. Grounded in the UK’s recognition of animal sentience in 2022, this legislation gives animals a special legal status beyond mere property — an important advancement as it contributes to the de-objectification of animals under the law by recognizing them as legal subjects and crime victims. Read the Animal Law Update.

New Report Reveals Risky and Unlawful Labeling Regulations; Petition Urges Action

The Animal Legal Defense Fund released a report showing that consumers care about what goes into the food products they purchase, but are not able to accurately discern whether a product contains animal-derived ingredients based on current U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling requirements. Read the report and sign the petition to urge the FDA to require products to disclose when they contain animal-derived ingredients.
