The Republican National Convention just ended. And if you’re feeling déjà vu, it might be because the extremist MAGA agenda adopted in Milwaukee sounds an awful lot like the radical platform adopted by Texas Republicans at their own convention back in May. In Milwaukee, the Republican Party nominated JD Vance as its candidate for vice president. Vance is an extremist — even by modern Republican standards. He: - Wants to ban abortion even in cases of rape or incest, claiming that “two wrongs don’t make a right”
- Is a fan of Project 2025, which he says has “good ideas”
- Said that if he had been vice president in 2021, he would have blocked the certification of Joe Biden’s victory on January 6th.
JD Vance is a radical ideologue, with a political outlook that is incompatible with our democracy. And yet, his extreme ideas seem to have a home in the party of MAGA. They’re certainly in line with those of the Texas Republican Party, which adopted its own radical agenda at the party convention in San Antonio a few months ago. As a reminder, the new Texas GOP platform: - Would require instruction on the Bible in all public schools
- Proclaims that abortion is “homicide” and criminalizes it accordingly
- Supports deporting legal residents who participate in protests
- Violates the Voting Rights Act by requiring any candidate for statewide office to win a majority of counties — effectively banning Democrats from the governorship and other statewide posts
From San Antonio to Milwaukee, the Republican Party continues to lurch towards extremism and authoritarianism. And from Austin to Washington, it is up to us to stop them from enacting their agenda. Powered by People is reaching, registering, and mobilizing Democratic voters in every corner of Texas. We’re making sure that every Texan will have their voice heard in November. And we’re working to elect Democrats across the state — Democrats who will stand up to the state GOP’s un-American platform in Austin, and who will block national Republicans’ extreme agenda in Washington. But we need your help to get it done. Can you make a contribution today to support our organizing efforts — and make sure we have what it takes to block extremists like Vance and the Texas GOP from taking power on election day? Thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting our work! Powered by People |
