Right now, ponies, loyal companion horses and hardworking racehorses are standing packed together in cramped trailers. They’re tired, thirsty and terrified. After traveling countless miles, those who survive this journey meet an awful fate. They’re slaughtered in seedy meat-processing plants outside U.S. borders—often enduring repeated blows and sometimes still conscious while they’re dismembered—and their meat is shipped overseas for human consumption. Can we count on you to help protect horses from this brutal fate? Please take a minute to tell your members of Congress to support the Save America's Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R.3475/S.2037), which would permanently ban domestic horse slaughter in the U.S. and stop the export of American horses for slaughter abroad. HSLF supporters like you have rallied behind the SAFE Act, but this critical piece of legislation still hasn’t made it across the finish line. We can’t afford to give up or lose hope as long as any equine in the U.S.—working, racing and companion horses, donkeys, mules and even children's ponies—are at risk of being slaughtered. We MUST demand that Congress take urgent action to protect horses from this predatory industry by fully banning horse slaughter on U.S. soil and stopping the export of equines across our borders to be slaughtered for human consumption. More than 80% of Americans support the banning of horse slaughter plants on U.S. soil as well as banning the export of American horses for slaughter abroad, Antonio. If you agree, please send a message to your members of Congress urging them to support the SAFE Act right now. |
