This is a victory for the people of Wisconsin, who’ve been demanding more and deserve better from their elected officials. While this is a huge victory, national polls are deadlocked here in Wisconsin and we won’t enjoy the benefits of fair legislative elections if Donald Trump wins and is able to enact his plan to roll back our progress and take away basic rights on day one. Second: These maps are responsive. Every vote matters — races will be more competitive and contested, ensuring lawmakers listen to the needs of their constituents. Finally: These maps reflect the will of the people. Depending on voters’ preferences, the people can elect Republican or Democratic majorities. Wisconsinites decide who they want electing them in public office, just as elections should work. I’ve always believed that the people should get to choose their elected officials, and not the other way. But the fight is not over. We need to ensure that progress in favor of democracy like this is protected, and that starts with building up our strength to defeat MAGA Republicans in November.
