The senator from Vermont slammed former Trump enabler and future former presidential candidate Nikki Haley's call this week for "absurd" mental competency tests for politicians older than 75. "There are a lot of 40-year-olds out there who ain't particularly competent," Sanders said. She's 51, but Nikki is actually a good reminder of that.

Guns have been intercepted literally from Burbank, California, to Bangor, Maine. But it tends to happen more at bigger airports in areas with laws more friendly to carrying a gun. The top 10 list for gun interceptions in 2022 includes Dallas, Austin, and Houston in Texas; three airports in Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta; Phoenix; and Denver.

Election conspiracy theorist Kristina Karamo, who was overwhelmingly defeated in her bid to become Michigan’s secretary of state just last year, bested a 10-candidate field dominated by fellow far-right radicals to lead the state’s beleaguered, debt-laden Republican Party for the next two years. Michigan Republicans surveyed the field and went whole hog on a stone cold loser, because denialism is a helluva drug.

Following in Twitter's stumblesteps, Meta will imminently roll out a paid verification service of its own. For the low, low price of $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on Apple and Android operating systems, Meta will use a government identification to verify a user’s account and give it a very special, super official blue badge thingy.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette staffers revolt against conservative owner
Amid a seemingly never-ending strike of roughly 100 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette employees, now approaching its fifth month, workers and their supporters have set their sights on the paper’s owner, Allan Block, embarking on a concerted effort to get him removed from C-SPAN’s board. According to striking staffers, Block has refused to negotiate in good faith and poisoned the workplace environment with ongoing efforts to manipulate the paper's coverage to be more sympathetic to Donald Trump.

Today’s Action: Phone bank TONIGHT to defend Virginia’s blue seat in Congress!
Virginia is holding a special election tomorrow to replace the recently deceased Rep. Donald McEachin, and we need all hands on deck to ensure the seat stays blue. Democrat State Senator Jennifer McClellan is running against a Republican pastor, Leon Benjamin, who has already lost his bid for the same House seat three times. It’s clear that the people of Virginia do not want Benjamin as their representative, but getting the word out about the special election to eligible voters in the state is key to securing a Democratic victory.
We can’t take any chances. Leon Benjamin is not only a Republican — he is a 2016 election conspiracy theorist who has recklessly questioned President Biden’s legitimacy to this day. It’s not only the president’s resounding election victory he’s denied — Benjamin also openly rejected the election of the late McEachin in 2020. To be clear, these elections were fair and square. Benjamin’s dangerous, out-of-touch denialism uses the very same rhetoric that resulted in Trump’s failed insurrection on January 6, 2021. The fewer conspiracy theorists we have in Congress, the better.
