The far-right takeover of the courts has gutted abortion rights, overturned commonsense gun safety law, opened the floodgates to unlimited corporate money in politics, and more.
Now the Republican blockade in the Senate is preventing confirmation of a whopping 57 judges nominated by President Biden.
But with Democrats retaining control of the Senate in the midterm elections, there can be no higher priority than getting these judges confirmed as quickly as possible. That’s why Demand Progress is pressuring Senate leaders to put an end to the Republicans’ stall tactics and confirm the 57 judicial nominees waiting for a vote right now.
Republicans plotted their right-wing takeover of the courts for decades, and during Trump’s presidency they delivered: a colossal 231 confirmations, including three Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Now, President Joe Biden is furiously playing catch up. So far, he’s ahead of where Trump was at the same point in his presidency and installed a historically diverse slate of 84 judges, including 55 judges of color, 63 women, 22 public defenders, and 17 civil rights lawyers.1 Plus: Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman and first former public defender to serve on the nation’s highest court.
But Republicans are now using every stall tactic in the book to run out that clock on dozens of remaining court appointees, with 25 lifetime nominees alone awaiting Senate action.
That’s why Demand Progress is pressuring Senate leaders to act on Biden’s court nominees as soon as possible.
With gratitude for all you do,
Tihi and the team at Demand Progress Action
