Six deaths, 173 new COVID-19 cases on Cape and Islands

 There were 4,497 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, increasing the total number to 1,925,311 since the pandemic began, the state Department of Public Health reported on Thursday.     

In their weekly report, state officials also noted 716 new probable cases of coronavirus for a statewide total of 179,142.     

As of Nov. 15, 156 patients were primarily hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses and 562 total patients hospitalized with COVID-19, the state agency reported.   

Fifty-one patients were in intensive care units, or ICUs, and 14 patients were intubated.    

Closer to home, in Thursday's weekly report, state health officials said Barnstable County posted 163 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 45,932 since the pandemic started. Dukes County (Martha's Vineyard) reported nine new coronavirus cases, for a to-date total of 4,227. Nantucket County reported one new case, for a total of 3,778.

The state’s 14-day positivity rate was 5.78%. The 14-day positivity rate for Barnstable County came in at 7.49%, and 3.41% for Dukes and Nantucket counties.     

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis was treating 13 patients with coronavirus, none in the ICU. Falmouth Hospital reported seven patients, none in the ICU.  

State health officials said Thursday there were 83 new deaths statewide among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19, increasing the total deaths to 20,697 since the pandemic began.      

There were 20 deaths statewide from probable cases of COVID-19. The number of deaths from probable cases is 1,512 in Massachusetts.     

Barnstable County posted six new deaths, the state agency reported. The total probable and confirmed deaths from COVID-19 is 680 in Barnstable County. There were no new deaths in Dukes and Nantucket counties combined, for a total fatality count of 22 since the pandemic began in March 2020.        

The two-week COVID-19 case count, total case count and 14-day testing positivity rate for Cape Cod towns follows:         

Barnstable (99; 11,762; 8.81%); Bourne (35; 4,343; 9.03%); Brewster (7; 1,786; 3.59%); Chatham (13; 1,087; 10.39%); Dennis (21; 2,877; 6.52%); Eastham (5; 638; 4.72%); Falmouth (40; 5,733; 5.38%); Harwich (17; 2,563; 6.55%); Mashpee (31; 3,194; 7.74%); Orleans (12; 988; 9.5%): Provincetown (less than five; 495; 11.36%); Sandwich (28; 4,334; 6.45%); Truro (0; 209; 6.45%); Wellfleet (less than five; 337; 4.76%) and Yarmouth (43; 5,586; 9.06%).
