Tennessee’s privatized charter system is failing

2022: The year we fully fund public schools

DID YOU KNOW: National studies have shown that private school voucher programs are ineffective at improving academic outcomes.

A private school voucher system has never been used in Tennessee before, and for good reason. National studies have actually found that, on average, students who participate in private school voucher programs actually do worse academically than students in public schools.

We know that private charter schools in Tennessee often produce worse academic outcomes for students than our public schools. So why would the GOP want to make taxpayers pay for our students to go there?

On top of the TN ESA voucher bill, state leaders are also considering opening 50 new charter schools in Tennessee. They plan to give private charter schools real estate deals and implement extra funding for charter students. How can we rationalize spending millions on new private schools while our public schools remain chronically underfunded?
