Fast food workers are twice as likely to live in poverty than other
California workers, but it doesn't have to be that way if we take action. After our organizing calls with courageous fast food worker activists,
US Rep. Ro Khanna, and local leaders — AB 257, the FAST Recovery Act advanced to the CA State Senate — where we’re directing a barrage of calls demanding fast food workers get a seat at the table.
With a vote expected in coming days, now is the time to pitch-in and fund our work to lift CA fast food workers to victory and stand up to the corporate lobbyists. If we win this bill in California, it will be a template to give workers
across the country a say over their workplace standards and the power to hold major food chains accountable.
Because of our member support, Our Revolution has been able to amplify the voices of fast food workers like Angelica Hernandez, who gave powerful testimony of her experience on our organizing call last week. A McDonald's worker in Los Angeles for 18 years, Angelica spoke of an industry rife with wage theft, sexual harassment, discrimination, violence, and health and safety issues. During the pandemic, things got worse, she said. "McDonald's didn't protect us. They made billions while we did the job of 2-3 people for minimum wage to survive, always fearful of getting infected and infecting our families." "I've faced retaliation because I raise my voice, they cut my hours, but it's worth it to fight for my coworkers," she said. "We need AB 257. We want to live, work and retire with dignity." Stand with workers like Angelica by pitching in here to help us overcome lobbyists and pass groundbreaking legislation to protect fast food workers! In solidarity, Our Revolution
